After procrastinating, finally time to pen my thoughts. The Ironman 70.3 isn’t just a race—it’s a profound journey of self-discovery, resilience, and transformation. Just for context - the race starts with an open water swim of 1.9k followed by a bike ride of 90k and then finally a half marathon (~21.1k). The cut off time for the race is 8hr 30mins with specific cut off times for each leg of the race. I signed up with my brother to do this race in November 2024.

I did an olympic distance triathlon (Swim 1.5k, Bike 40k and Run 10k) in July 2024 to test if this is for me and I realized if I want to do the Ironman 70.3 race, I really need to get serious as I wasn't strong in swimming and biking technique and also needed to work on my endurance. Looking back on my four months of intense preparation, I’m filled with gratitude for the lessons learned and the unwavering sense of purpose that emerged.

Training for this race required a level of discipline I had never experienced before. Balancing my job with a rigorous training schedule meant early mornings, late evenings, and often, two workout sessions a day. Weekends became synonymous with long hours on the bike, grueling brick sessions, and refining my swimming technique—a discipline that had always been my Achilles’ heel. Slowly but surely, through focused effort and right guidance, swimming went from being a source of doubt to a cornerstone of my confidence.

At the heart of my success was having an amazing Coach who worked with me to build a solid plan. A structured training regime kept me on track and ensured I was building endurance, strength, and mental toughness. It wasn’t just about checking off workouts; it was about trusting the process and adapting when life inevitably threw curveballs. Whether it was a missed session due to work commitments or unexpected fatigue, learning to adjust without losing momentum was key. Flexibility in the face of challenges ensured that I could stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.

What surprised me most throughout this journey was the deep sense of purpose I discovered. Completing each training session wasn’t just a physical achievement; it was a reminder of my commitment to myself. There were countless days when motivation was nowhere to be found, but showing up regardless became my superpower. I learned that discipline often means doing the work even when you don’t feel like it. Those moments of perseverance—when the couch seemed more appealing than the pool—were the ones that built true strength.

This journey was possible because of my wife, Mansi. She did everything to make sure I can manage my training schedule and have enough time on my hand to rest. One thing no one tells you when you sign up for these races is the toll it takes on your mood. Somedays you don't feel like talking or watching a movie. She stood like a wall behind me. I cannot thank her enough for all her support.

Crossing the finish line of the Ironman 70.3 was an unforgettable moment. It symbolized not just the end of a race, but the culmination of months of sacrifice, perseverance, and self-belief. This journey reinforced a truth I’ll carry forever: with discipline, a solid plan, adaptability, and a clear purpose, we are capable of achieving the extraordinary.

All I can say for now is that I cannot wait to do my next Ironman race! :)
